Honeycrisp apples are crisp to the bite and have the sweetest taste. They are the best kind of apples for this delicious apple dessert. And they are available year-round at the local grocer.

My boys can’t get enough.

Apple season in Ohio is the best way to stock up on this fresh fruit. Honeycrisp apples are a favorite apple of mine and I always come home with a peck or two. My boys typically go apple picking with me and we all have our favorite. For Will it’s granny smith apples and for Ben it’s pink lady apples.

I made this last night. It was a hit! ~ Pat

Lucky for me, both boys know how to make this recipe own their own. It’s great walking into the kitchen to see one peeling apples and the other mixing a large bowl of the homemade apple crumb topping.

Steps to make this easy apple crisp recipe

Peel and slice your perfect apple. For us it’s honeycrisp. But if you prefer a different variety of apple, then pick up your favorite at the farm market or store. After peeling, you’ll place the apple slices in a rectangular or square pan.

Make the oat mixture. In a medium bowl combine all purpose flour, gluten-free oats, granulated sugar, cinnamon and melted pieces of butter to make an oat crumble.

Add the topping. Cover the entire baking dish of sliced apples with the oat and flour mixture.

Bake the best apple crisp. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and bake for about 45 minutes until the topping has a crisp texture. Enjoy with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Can you prepare this honeycrisp apple recipe the day before?

Absolutely! You can make it the day before, store in the fridge, and reheat it in the oven before serving it to your guests.

It is simple and easy to make. The hardest part is coring the apples.

It’s amazing what kind of help you can get in the kitchen when your cooking assistants know what the prize is.

The apple crisp crumb topping is crumbly and sweet. It’s a great complement to warm, cinnamon-spiced cooked apples.

Honeycrisp apples are my favorite kinds of apples because they are sweet and juicy and go great in any pie, tart or crisp.
