You will also need aslow cookerfor this simple shredded pork recipe. It’ll help cook your roast low and slow keeping it juicy and tender!

How To Make Dr. Pepper Pulled Pork Sandwiches In A Slow Cooker

Step 1 – Prepare the Pork

Size your pork roast to your crockpot. If your roast is too big to fit, then cut it into sections that will fit into your slow cooker.

Step 2 – Season Your Pork

Roll the pork roast in the onion soup mix until well coated on all sides and place inside your crockpot.

Step 3 – Add the Dr. Pepper

Pour the Dr. Pepper soda over the pork until it is nearly covered in your slow cooker.

Note: This is my favorite part because the bottle of Dr. Pepper seems a little too generous, so use what you need and drink the rest!

Step 4 – Cook Pork in Slow Cooker

  • High Heat Slow Cooker Setting: Cook for 4-5 hours
  • Low Heat Slow Cooker Setting: Cook for 7-8 hours

Cooking meals in the crock pot is very forgiving. I have even assembled mine at 9 pm, turned it on low, and let it simmer slowly all night long. The next morning, I shredded the meat, returned it back into the juices, and it was all ready for our lunch guests.

Step 5 – Shred the Cooked Pork

Remove the pork from the crock pot (it will be falling apart). Shred the meat using two forks. Return it back to the slow cooker and gently stir in the juice.

Tip: If you find there is too much liquid, just use a ladle to remove some.

Optional: Drizzle over your favorite barbecue sauce if you’d like.

Dr. Pepper Pulled Pork Recipe Notes

  • You can use really any cut of pork like pork shoulder. Pork tenderloin is going to be much more dry. So pork shoulder, picnic roast, or Boston butt will be the best cut of meat because of the fat content. Always cook your roast fat side up.
  • This recipe requires only a few simple ingredients. But you can add other things like kosher salt, black pepper, or even a small dash of liquid smoke.
  • If you don’t have a bottle of Dr. Pepper you can use 2 can of dr pepper.
  • Use a crockpot liner to make your pork crock pot recipes easier to clean up.
  • This is a Dr. Pepper pulled pork recipe, but if you can’t have Dr. Pepper you can use Coca Cola or Root Beer, really any dark soda will work, but the flavor will not be the same. I would stay away from diet soda.
