UCR is a small-scale and intensive University College, this means that the tuition fees are slightly higher than the tuition fees set by the Dutch government.

Tuition fees for European students

The tuition fee for European students* is set at € 4,610** for the 2024-2025 academic year. UCR will continue to seek a balance between high-quality education and affordability for students. There are more expenses associated with studying at UCR, which you can find further down on this page.

* You qualify as a European student if you have a passport from one of the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovak Republic, Spain, Suriname, Sweden and Switzerland.

** Please note that tuition fees are indexed. It means that you can expect tuition fees to rise slightly year-on-year.

Tuition fees for students starting in the Spring 2024 semester

The Dutch government will provide a discount of € 578‬ on the 2023-2024 tuition fee for specific groups of first-year bachelor’s students.
You can check whether you qualify for this reduction on the website of Utrecht University​. This discount will not be extended into the academic year 2024-2025.

Tuition fees for students starting in the Spring semester

Students starting in the Spring semester will only pay tuition fees for that semester (e.g. a student starting in Spring 2025, will pay only half of their tuition fees for the Academic Year 2024-2025). ​

Payment of tuition fees

Tuition fees can only be paid by bank transfer. Foreign cheques are not accepted. Furthermore, since the changes to the guidelines of the VA, it is unfortunately no longer possible for UCR to support the VA grant applications of students at UCR. We refer you to other grant finders.

Tuition fees for non-European students

The tuition fee for students with a non-EU/EEA nationality is set at € 10,910* for the 2024-2025 academic year. UCR will continue to seek a balance between high quality education and affordability for students.

Visa and/or residence permit expenses for Non-European students

Students with a non-EU/EEA nationality will have to pay for a visa and/or residence permit. At the moment, the residence permit to stay in the Netherlands for three years costs € 257 in total. For more information about residence permits, please see Visa and Residence Permits.

Students starting in the Spring semester will only pay tuition fees for that semester (e.g. a student starting in Spring 2025, will pay only half of their tuition fees for the Academic Year 2024-2025).

Other expenses to take into account

Rent on campus varies between € 300 and € 500. Depending on location and price students may apply for rent allowance with the Dutch government. The cost of housing at UCR is estimated at approximately € 400 per month (€ 4,800 per year). This covers rent and utilities: gas, water, and electricity. Students have the use of a private bedroom and depending on location a private or a shared living room, kitchenette and bathroom.

Room sizes and housing arrangements vary, so please bear in mind that this is only an estimate. Students are also required to fund personal expenses such as meals, clothes, books, sports, insurance, travel and other living expenses. UCR students are automatically members of the Roosevelt’s All Student Association (RASA).
